This 78,000 square foot sports training center completes Duke University’s athletic precinct master plan. The program for the project is similar to a wellness facility, including workout and practice areas, therapy rooms, locker rooms, and conference rooms.

The building’s primary use is to provide a football-only space that can be used by the team throughout the year without having to schedule activities around the university’s other athletic teams. The facility also includes Duke University’s Sports Hall of Fame, which features displays and memorabilia illustrating highlights from eighty years of Duke athletics.

The building was designed to form a backdrop to Wallace Wade Stadium, drawing its scale and detail from both the immediate context and Duke’s longstanding and venerable Gothic revival campus. The building gracefully transforms the traditional vernacular of the Collegiate Gothic Style through the use of finely detailed curtain wall and stoutly expressed masonry, building on the visual unity that ties the existing campus together.
